How does it work?

The procedure utilises focused ultrasound energy to target the epidermis, dermis and SMAS layers and create rapid heat within the tissue. The SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) layer sits between the muscle and fat and is the same layer that is pulled and tightened during a surgical operation with a plastic surgeon. HIFU does not require surgical incisions, and instead cellular damage is caused when the cells reach a certain temperature, which in turn stimulates the cells to produce more collagen. Collagen is a common protein found in the dermis which gives the skin its firmness and youthful look. As we age, our bodies produce less collagen which leads to less elasticity (sagging of the skin). The increase in collagen results in tighter and firmer skin

As HIFU uses ultrasonic energy that penetrates deep into the tissue causing thermal coagulation it avoids adverse contra-actions of the superficial skin layers. Clients may experience what feels like tiny electric pulses or a prickly sensation, however the treatment is completely tolerable and pain free.
